FAQ

New to track riding? We’ve got you covered! We’ve put together some of the most common questions to help you get started and feel more confident on your journey.

        1. How do I book a track day in Queensland?

We know how confusing it can be when you’re starting out, so we’ve created a step-by-step guide to booking track days in Queensland. If you’ve never booked a ride day in Queensland our guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

We’re also working on expanding our guide to cover track days across Australia, so women everywhere can feel confident getting started.

        2. Do I need a licence for a track day?

Yes! To ride a track day in Queensland, you’ll generally need either a Motorcycling Australia (MA) licence or a recreational/racing licence, depending on the track and event organiser.

We know this can be confusing, especially when you’re starting out, so we’ve created a guide explaining how to purchase annual licences for both options.

You can also purchase a day licence at many Queensland tracks, depending on the event and organiser.

        3. Do I need a special motorcycle to ride on the track?

No! You don’t need a race bike to get started. Many riders begin on their everyday road bike.

As long as your motorcycle meets the event’s safety and technical requirements, you can enjoy track riding without investing in an expensive race bike.

Always check the requirements with your chosen track day organiser before booking.

        4. Can beginners ride track days?

Absolutely! Track days are a great way to build confidence, improve your riding skills and learn in a controlled environment.

We partner with Track Start Training, who specialise in beginner rider training and helping new riders feel comfortable on the track.

We are also hosting a ladies only coaching day with them in December! This event is all about giving women the opportunity to learn in a supportive, welcoming environment alongside other women.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced rider looking to improve your skills, there’s a place for you!

        5. Do I need to be a certain level of rider?

Not at all! Whether you’ve been riding for years or have only recently started, there’s a place for you on the track.

The important thing is to choose an event that suits your experience level and ride at a pace you’re comfortable with.

        6. What gear do I need for a track day?

        You’ll generally need:

        A full-face motorcycle helmet.

One-piece or approved two-piece motorcycle leathers.

        Motorcycle boots.

        Motorcycle gloves.

Any other safety equipment required by the event organiser.

Don’t have your own gear yet? Race and Road offers full gear hire, making it easier to get started without having to purchase everything upfront. They also offer custom motorcycle suits if you’re ready to invest in your own!

        7. Do I need to remove my motorcycle’s headlights and indicators?

Some track day organisers require lights and indicators to be removed or taped over, while others allow them to remain fitted.

Check the specific requirements for your event before preparing your bike. If you’re unsure, ask the organiser!

        8. How much does a track day cost?

The cost varies depending on the track, event organiser and whether you’re booking a single day or a full weekend.

We’ve included pricing information in our How to Book a Track Day in Queensland guide, along with everything you need to know about finding and booking your first track day.

Our guide also covers the additional costs you may need to consider, such as tyres, fuel, transport, accommodation and licence fees, so you can plan your budget with confidence.

        9. Do I need to buy expensive tyres or race equipment?

No! You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to enjoy your first track day.

Start with the equipment you already have and make sure it’s safe and suitable for the event. As you gain experience, you can gradually invest in upgrades that suit your riding and goals.

Check our our “Tyre Talk” Article on our Track Day Journal Block to read more about why you don’t need race tyres as a beginner!

        10. What happens if I crash or damage my bike?

Crashes can happen, even to experienced riders. That’s why it’s important to understand your event’s rules, insurance requirements and what happens if you damage your bike.

Most track day events are not covered by standard road motorcycle insurance, so check your policy and the organiser’s terms before riding.

If you have a crash, prioritise your safety and follow the instructions of the track officials.

        11. I’m a bit nervous to ride with the boys. How can I find your next ladies-only track day?

We get it! Riding on track for the first time can be intimidating, especially when you’re surrounded by experienced riders.

That’s why we run ladies-only track days, giving women the opportunity to experience the track in a supportive, welcoming environment alongside other women.

        13. Do I need a trailer or van to get my bike to the track?

Not necessarily! Some riders ride their motorcycles to the track, while others use a trailer, van or ute.

The best option depends on your bike, the distance you’re travelling and whether you’re comfortable riding home after a full day on track.

If you’re new to track riding, transporting your bike can be a good option so you don’t have to worry about riding home tired.

        14. What if I’m nervous or don’t know anyone?

That’s completely normal! Many riders feel nervous before their first track day.

Track riding can be intimidating when you don’t know what to expect, but you won’t be the only beginner there.

Girls on Track is all about creating a supportive community where women can meet other riders, ask questions and feel comfortable learning at their own pace.

You don’t need to know anyone before you arrive. Come along, introduce yourself and get involved!

        15. Is track riding only for people who want to race?

Not at all! Track riding is for anyone who wants to improve their skills, build confidence or experience riding a motorcycle in a controlled environment.

Some riders go on to race, while others simply enjoy track days as a hobby.

There’s no right or wrong reason to ride. You can set your own goals and enjoy the journey.

        16. Where can I find more information about getting started?
