🏁 What is a motorcycle track day?
A motorcycle track day is an organised event where riders take their bikes onto a closed circuit (usually a race track) to ride in a safe environment without traffic, speed limits, or road hazards.
Track days are designed to help you:
- Improve cornering and braking skills
- Build confidence on your bike
- Understand bike control at different speeds
- Ride safely in a controlled environment
🏁 What to wear on your first track day
Choosing the right gear is the most important part of preparing for a track day.
Most track days require full protective gear, including:
Essential gear:
- Full leather riding suit (one-piece or zip-together two-piece) Don't have your own suit? RACE and ROAD offers affordable hire suits in all sizes! Pop in store and try some on or give them a call on 1300 100 009 to discuss.
- Certified motorcycle helmet AS/NZS/ECE approved
- Armoured gauntlet gloves (covering the wrists)
- Motorcycle boots with ankle protection
- A breathable undersuit that makes getting your leathers on and off quick, easy, and comfortable. (like ours, get it here)
- Something to wear over the top of your undersuit before you put your leathers on 👉 Explore our Women’s Motorcycle Apparel Collection designed specifically for riders.
Tips for the girls:
Fit matters. loose fitting gear can affect comfort, control, and confidence. Always choose gear designed for female riders (if possible)

🏁 What to expect on the day (Queensland Raceway & Morgan Park Raceway)
Your first track day in the beginner group is structured, supportive, and beginner-friendly.
1. Rider briefing
You’ll attend a safety briefing covering track rules, flags, and group riding sessions.
2. Group sessions
Riders are split into groups based on experience (beginner, intermediate, intermediate-fast advanced). You’ll ride in short sessions with breaks in between.
3. Coaching & feedback
Many track days include instructors who help improve your braking, cornering, and riding lines.
4. Breaks between sessions
Time to rest, hydrate, and adjust your bike (if needed)
🏁 Tips to build confidence on track
- Ride at your own pace
- Focus on smooth inputs, not speed
- Look where you want to go
- Stay relaxed on the bike
- Take breaks when needed (if you don't feel like finishing a whole session, you don't have too!)
Confidence builds every lap.
🏁 Common beginner mistakes to avoid
- Riding too tense or stiff (I tell myself - "noodle arms" this helps my upper body relax which then releaxes the rest of my body.
- Trying to brake late into corners - go at your own pace, focus on smooth over fast
- Not staying hydrated
- Trying to keep up with faster riders
The goal is learning and having fun! Speed comes later
